Faye Smith has over twenty years experience of sales and marketing - from managing leading retail brands like Debenhams and Principles, to managing Europe's first retail academy at Meadowhall. Along the way she's gained vital qualifications like bra fitter, job club leader, business counsellor and image consultant.

As head of sales and marketing at Rotherham Chamber-TEC throughout the nineties, Faye was responsible for supporting thousands of Rotherham businesses and international inward investment. The birth of her second child caused her to completely re-think her life, starting her own consultancy alongside five years of marketing contracts in the voluntary sector.  Two years ago she fulfilled her dream of becoming a full time entrepreneur, setting up Keep your Fork marketing and training consultancy.  When Faye isn't helping helping charities, social enterprises and smaller businesses find and keep customers and funders, she will be helping students develop more confidence, employability and enterprise skills as they go into the world of work.

Her award-winning customer service training has been featured on all four major TV channels and in the national press. You will also hear some of Faye's refreshingly outspoken regular guest slots on self esteem, relationships and women's issues on BBC Radio Sheffield.

As a JCI member, you have the opportunity to attend several JCI conferences throughout the year. The two biggest are the European Conference and World Congress. JCI UK sends a large delegation to both. If you go along, you will:

Kate is Immediate Past President for  JCI Sheffield. She is also National Communications Director on the JCI UK National Board. In her ‘real-life’ she is the Internal Communications Manager at national law firm Irwin Mitchell and also a Trustee of local charity, Cavendish Cancer Care.

Why Global Partnership?
Imagine a better world. A world with no wars, no poverty, no sickness. Now, how are we going to get there?

No single entity can answer the world's greatest challenges alone. The three sectors each have a unique and crucial role to play, and only through collaboration will we realize the better world we are working for.

At the 2011 JCI Global Partnership Summit, active citizens from around the world united with leaders of business, civil society and government to explore ways to work both individually and collectively to enhance grassroots efforts to advance the UN MDGs. In 2012, we're taking action to apply these powerful ideas to our countries, our communities, our backyards.

Through interactive discussions, workshops and case studies, JCI members, partners and participants will engage these concepts viewed through the unique JCI perspective as the leading global network of young active citizens.

Objective
The Summit will focus on arming active citizens with the tools and information necessary to impact their communities through targeted action and strategic partnerships.

Expected Results
The Summit aims to accomplish the following

• Engage thought leaders from the three sectors to explore best practices in collaboration, leading the conversation with the unique JCI perspective
• Highlight strategic partnerships and how they can be implemented at the local level to build a better world and advance the UN MDGs
• Showcase stand-out projects from all three sectors to motivate and inspire active citizens to create positive change

Participants
The Summit is open to all members of JCI. In addition to JCI members, a number of UN officials, representatives of JCI's global partners as well as Global Compact companies will attend. Normally not more than 200 people attend so it is a great opportunity to get to meet and socialize with people you otherwise only see from a distance.

Celebrating JCI Barnsley's Diamond anniversary 60 years of local people developing their leadership & business skills and supporting community projects and charities.

Dan works in information management and business change in the utilities industry, however he started out his career in the steel industry.

Dan is extremely passionate about everything he does and loves to challenge himself to learn new things, meet new people and more importantly, try things out.

He's been a member of JCI since 2008 and enjoyed every minute of it. In 2011 he made his first international trip to the World Congress in Brussels, which was an amazing opportunity to meet fellow members from around the world and learn many new things.

Lean Thinking & How to apply it to your life!

You may have heard great things about 'Lean' as an improvement approach over recent years, but still left wondering what it actually is?!

This session will use an interactive simulation to demonstrate the 5 lean principles and in true JCI form, will be a very much 'learning by doing event'.

Lean can be used to improve flow and eliminate waste in many industries after originally being developed by Toyota. Lean is basically about getting the right things done, to the right level of quality, at the right time, in the right quantities, while minimising waste and being flexible and open to change.

JCI Sheffield Directors Dan Senter and James Alcock will be hosting the session. Dan has over 8 years' experience working in continuous improvement having worked in a number of organisations who have successfully implemented lean tools and techniques to their business. James is still on the 'lean journey' however is working on adapting lean methodology into software development.

The purpose of the summit is to enable JCI UK members to get involved in the public discourse in the UK and to make a difference in their local communities.

The summit will take place over the weekend of 22-24 September 2012. The Summit will start with a social Friday night for those already there and end Monday afternoon around 5pm. You can read the draft programme here.

Among the activities of the summit we will shadow an MP, learn how to do our own PR, learn about structures of government both local and national, government priorities, how to get involved with civic forums and a panel on lobbying. Read more in the About section.

The summit includes the JCI Impact Training *FIRST TIME IN THE UK!* which will be given by a representative of the JCI HQ team in St Louis.

 The Active Citizenship Summit is open for all active members of JCI. We especially encourage Local Presidents and Deputy Local Presidents in particular to attend.

While the Summit is open for members from outside the UK the programme is aimed at JCI members living in the UK as they are the ones who will get the most benefit from attending.

If you missed it out last time make sure you save date

Join JCI members from all across Europe for an inside scoop on what's really going on at the EU.

JCI members get to learn from the experts in EU about how the EU really works, what's the big thing at the moment and how to lobby the EU. Members then shadow a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for two whole days, learning what they are doing in practice, seeing what's really going on.

In addition to the shadowing and the first day of lectures the evenings are filled with receptions and dinners so that participants really get to see what life in the EU capital is like.

You have to be a JCI member to participate at this event. 

The event starts Sunday afternoon and continues through Wednesday with daytime and evening events. The price does not include accomodation.

Why being good is good for business
CSR, Sustainability, CR - call it what you will! Essentially, this session will help you to understand why it is important for organizations of all shapes and size take responsibility for "...the management of a company's positive impact on society and the environment through its operations, products or services and through its interaction with key stakeholders such as employees, customers, investors and suppliers."
This session will cover the business case for CSR, key areas to address and how you and your company can embark on this journey!

Peter Birkby

The Head of Campus at the University Campus in Barnsley, Peter worked for over 20 years as a self-employed musician, performing with Dame Shirley Bassey, Michael Crawford, Vic Damone, Gene Pitney, Frankie Lane and Andre Boccelli to name a few. He also has a background in radio, television, film and music recording as a performer, composer, arranger and musical director.

Peter always envisaged a career change to work in education and en route to the University of Huddersfield he has taught performance, composition and music business at Leeds College of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, Bretton Hall, Wakefield and Barnsley Colleges.

Logo Concept

1. Year 2012 will be the year of dragon, according to the Chinese Zodiac. Coming out together with the dragon and the number of "2012" means the combination of eastern (the dragon) and western (4 digits) culture.
2. The dragon is the leader of 12-animal symbols in the Chinese zodiac. JCI is the leader of young entrepreneurs' associations, JCI Taipei is the leader of JCI local chapters in Taipei Metropolitan Area, and Taipei is the leading metropolis city in Taiwan.
3. A jumping dragon means an active leader. The dragon was drawn in Chinese calligraphy painting and in form of circled ribbon. The circle means "completion" - success and achievement.
4. 2012 is drawn by calligraphic painting too and was in form of colorful clouds. Clouds 2012 rises and accompanies with the jumping dragon going toward to JCI (in form of its official logo) and the World Congress. The whole picture presents to keep moving forward year by year. This idea is very similar to "Be Better" concept from JCI - always stepping toward a better world!
